  • Embodied nature of numerical processing: One of the main issues in numerical processing concerns the links between sensory-motor habits and numerical representations. One outstanding question in this project concerned the neurophysiological correlates of these embodied numerical associations. In this project we supported the association of number-hand representations and the idea of embodied numerosity with ERP/EEG data.
  • The interaction of time, space and number: This program focused on the interaction of number, time and space and whether such relation is lined to mathematical education. We showed that participants who are mathematically more competent might have better performance in tasks related to time, space and number.
  • The journey of numbers from attention to motor processing: A project on the embodied account of neural responses to number magnitudes, challenging the conventional view of numbers as abstract symbols. We investigated the relationship between motor processing and numerical cognition, emphasizing the influence of learned motor associations in individuals with different finger-counting habits. Introduced the Feature-based Attention to Learned Motor (FALM) framework, proposing that attention directed towards learned motor activities significantly impacts neural responses to numerical information.
  • Preschool and Primary Teachers’ Attitude towards Finger Counting: A multisite research collaboration across 20 countries to investigate the attitudes of preschool and primary teachers towards finger counting. In this project we explore how teachers’ beliefs and attitudes influence classroom activities, particularly in the context of finger counting. This project might shed light on the alignment between teachers’ beliefs and the latest discoveries in the field, emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing potential barriers to children’s mathematical skill development.
